You searched **download youtube mix**. Mix is generated. It is often huge. A converter you found in search treats that as permission to grab everything. A **copied command** dumps hundreds of titles you never picked.

You wanted a few of those videos, not a radio station on disk.

**KeepCopy** is a [desktop video downloader](/), not a website that fetches the video for you. To **download YouTube Mix** here, paste the Mix URL, **select the entries**, and save those videos to a folder on this computer. Official **yt-dlp** plus **ffmpeg** run locally. The pasted URL never goes through our servers. The desktop app sends **no telemetry**.

<h2 id="why-mix-usually-means-a-dump">Why Mix usually means a dump</h2>

**YouTube Mix is a generated radio, not a playlist you curated.** Open a video, start Mix, and the sidebar fills with related titles. There is no download button. Search then points you at a converter or a command that treats `list=RD` as “save all of it.”

A **browser extension** is the other common path. The session still leaves a window you control.

KeepCopy stays a **desktop video downloader**. This page is only the Mix job. Your computer talks to YouTube. We do not see the URL.

The generic public-list walkthrough is [Download selected videos from a playlist](/blog/download-selected-videos-from-playlist). Come back here when the list is a Mix.

<h2 id="paste-the-watch-url-that-includes-list-rd">Paste the watch URL that includes list=RD</h2>

**Paste the Mix watch page — the one that already has `list=RD` in the address bar.**

- Open a video on YouTube, start **Mix**, then copy the address. It looks like `youtube.com/watch?v=` plus an id, then `&list=RD` plus more characters.
- That `list=RD` query is what KeepCopy inspects as a playlist. You should see the Mix picker: many titles, not one video.

Do not paste YouTube Home, a channel, or a search page. Those are not Mix.

A Mix **list** URL that looks like `youtube.com/playlist?list=RD…` often will not inspect. YouTube treats that playlist type as unviewable. Use the watch URL with `list=RD` instead.

If you strip `&list=RD` and paste only the watch link, inspect is one video. That is [YouTube to MP4](/blog/youtube-to-mp4), not Mix.

<h2 id="mix-is-generated-not-a-list-you-own">Mix is generated — not a list you own</h2>

**Mix is not Watch Later, and it is not Liked.** Those lists belong to an account. Mix is built for the seed video. It can change the next time you open it.

- Watch Later is `list=WL` — [Download YouTube Watch Later](/blog/download-youtube-watch-later).
- Liked videos are `list=LL`. Same private-list job as Watch Later.
- Mix uses `list=RD`. It is generated. You do not manage that list.

Start without cookies. Mix is usually public. If inspect fails, or the queue title is **sign in required** or **YouTube is asking for verification**, open **Site access** under the paste field. Choose cookies from Chrome, Chromium, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, or a `cookies.txt` file. Then press **Add** again.

Cookies stay on this computer. They reuse a session you already have. They do not freeze a Mix YouTube will rebuild later. The full cookie path is [Video download says sign in required](/blog/video-download-sign-in-required).

<h2 id="pick-a-few-from-a-long-mix">Pick a few from a long Mix</h2>

**Selection is required.** A Mix inspect can return hundreds of generated titles. Pasting `list=RD` is not permission to save every one.

After inspect, each entry shows a checkbox, a thumbnail, a title, and a duration. Uncheck what you do not want, or **Clear all** and pick a few. **Select all** is there when you mean the whole Mix — after you have seen it.

The **Download** button stays off until at least one entry is selected. It then reads **Download** plus that count. Nothing is queued until you click it.

Unavailable placeholders in a Mix have nothing to save. KeepCopy cannot restore a video YouTube already took down.

The picker screenshot lives with the steps below. Public lists that are not Mix stay on [Download selected videos from a playlist](/blog/download-selected-videos-from-playlist).

<h2 id="how-to-download-youtube-mix-in-keepcopy">How to download YouTube Mix in KeepCopy</h2>

**Paste the Mix watch URL, select entries, pick quality, and queue those jobs.** You never type a format code. You never pass playlist indexes.

### Step 1: Open KeepCopy

Launch KeepCopy on macOS, Windows, or Linux. First run installs and verifies the official **yt-dlp** release and **ffmpeg** on this computer. You do not hunt a **package manager**.

    srcset="/images/ui/first-launch-engine-install-800.webp 800w, /images/ui/first-launch-engine-install-1200.webp 1200w, /images/ui/first-launch-engine-install.webp 1600w"
    sizes="(min-width: 720px) min(65ch, 92vw), 92vw"
    data-full-src="/images/ui/first-launch-engine-install.webp"

    width="1600"
    height="1129"
    fetchpriority="high"
  />
</figure>

### Step 2: Paste the Mix watch URL

Drop in the `youtube.com/watch?v=` link that includes `&list=RD`. Press **Add**. Because the URL has `list=`, KeepCopy inspects it as a playlist on this computer — the Mix picker, not a single-title card.

If you wanted only the seed video, paste the watch URL without the Mix query.

    sizes="(min-width: 720px) min(65ch, 92vw), 92vw"
    data-full-src="/images/ui/first-launch-paste-link-field-no-dowloads-no-queue.webp"
    alt="KeepCopy paste field with the placeholder Paste a video or playlist URL and an empty downloads list"
    width="1600"
    height="1129"

</figure>

### Step 3: Select the entries, then pick quality

Use the checkboxes. Three videos out of a long Mix means you pick those three.

Choose **720p MP4**, **1080p MP4**, **4K MP4**, or **best available** when the source has them. Prefer **1080p** or **4K** so **ffmpeg** can join the streams YouTube often splits.

If YouTube challenged that inspect, set **Site access** before you expect titles. Leave **Don’t use cookies** when the Mix already loaded.

    alt="KeepCopy playlist picker with selected entries, thumbnails, a selected count, and a Download 25 button"
    width="1600"
    height="1047"
  />
</figure>

### Step 4: Save those videos to a folder

In Settings, set **Save files to** to a folder on this computer. Each selected entry becomes its own job. The queue shows progress, cancel, and retry. When a job finishes, **Show folder** reveals the video.

If a row failed, [Video download keeps failing](/blog/video-download-keeps-failing).

<h2 id="if-you-wanted-watch-later-or-a-playlist-you-made">If you wanted Watch Later or a playlist you made</h2>

**Mix is not a list you own.** Your Watch Later pile is [Download YouTube Watch Later](/blog/download-youtube-watch-later). A public playlist you can open without Mix is [Download selected videos from a playlist](/blog/download-selected-videos-from-playlist).

Do not paste `list=WL` or `list=LL` here and expect Mix. Those jobs already have URLs.

<h2 id="what-this-will-not-do">What this will not do</h2>

**KeepCopy will not silently download every Mix video** because you pasted `list=RD`. You inspect, you select, you click Download.

**It will not treat Mix as a playlist you manage.** The list is generated. It can change. Save the titles you want now.

**It will not inspect a Mix list page that YouTube marks unviewable.** Use the watch URL that includes `list=RD`.

**It will not rename KeepCopy a YouTube downloader.** This page is one job. The product stays a desktop video downloader.

If a selected MP4 is mute, see [Downloaded MP4 no audio](/blog/downloaded-mp4-no-audio).

<h2 id="if-you-wanted-one-watch-link">If you wanted one watch link</h2>

**Mix is a generated list.** One public video is [YouTube to MP4](/blog/youtube-to-mp4). Paste the watch, `youtu.be`, or Shorts URL — without the Mix query — and pick **1080p MP4** or **4K MP4**.

Audio only from a YouTube link is [YouTube to MP3](/blog/youtube-to-mp3). That page is still one watch, not a Mix dump.

The download stays **local-first**. For the path of a pasted link, read [What stays on your computer](/blog/what-stays-on-your-computer). More [workflow](/blog/category/workflow) notes live with this one.

<h2 id="micro-faq" class="faq-heading">Micro-FAQ</h2>

### Which URL do I paste for Mix?

Paste the watch URL that includes `list=RD`. Not YouTube Home, not `playlist?list=RD`, and not a watch link with the Mix query stripped.

### Does KeepCopy download the whole Mix?

No. You inspect the Mix, select the entries, then queue those. Mix can be hundreds of generated titles. Nothing is saved until you click Download.

### Is Mix the same as Watch Later?

No. Mix is generated and uses `list=RD`. Watch Later is your private `list=WL` list. Liked videos use `list=LL`.

### Do I need cookies for Mix?

Only if YouTube challenges the inspect. Start without cookies. If it asks, choose a listed browser or a `cookies.txt` file. Cookies stay on this computer.
