The engine is why a link from somewhere else might still work.** KeepCopy runs official yt-dlp plus ffmpeg on this computer. yt-dlp is built to inspect many video pages, not only the ten hosts above. If that engine can read the page, the same paste, pick quality, and save flow is what you use. There are three ways a page you paste can turn into a video in your folder. ### The engine knows that site Most well-known video hosts have their own handler in the engine. It knows the shape of the page, where the qualities live, and how to ask for them. The ten hosts above are in this group, and so are a great many sites we do not advertise. ### The page embeds a player the engine knows This is the one people do not expect. A university course page, a company wiki, or a news article is usually not hosting the video itself — it is dropping in a player from a video platform, and the engine often already knows that player. So a page that is not a video site at all can still hand over a video. If you have ever wondered why a random work or study page works, this is why. ### A generic fallback Failing both of those, the engine can still look at the page and try to find a video in it. This is the least reliable path and the first one to fail on an unusual site, but it is the reason the answer to “will this link work” is *try it* rather than *check a list*. Paste the URL. Inspect it. If the preview loads, pick a quality and download. If it does not, the app will say so. That check happens here — the pasted URL never goes through our servers. We do not promise every extractor. Hosts change their pages, and when one does, the handler for that site stops working until the official yt-dlp release catches up. That is normal and it is public — the engine’s own maintainers mark the handlers that are currently broken, and a fix ships in a later release. Optional checks for a newer engine release are how you pick that fix up, and they can be turned off. Wait for inspect. You should see a title and the quality labels. 3. Pick 720p, 1080p, 4K, best available, or audio as MP3 or M4A. 4. Click Download. The video lands in a folder on this computer. Stories are not a downloadable type. **Does every site yt-dlp supports work here?** No. The official yt-dlp release is the engine, so other pages it can inspect may work — because the engine knows that site, because the page embeds a video player it already knows, or through a generic fallback. That is not a guarantee every extractor works, or that a page will keep working. **The page I want is not a video site. Can it still work?** Sometimes. A course page, a team wiki, or a news article is often playing a video through an embedded player the engine already knows, and that is enough for the same paste-pick-save flow.
