Why playlist-to-MP3 usually dumps or caps

The search is built for a paste box that treats a list like one job. You copy a playlist URL, land on a converter, and hope every title comes back as audio. Large lists stall. Small caps cut the rest.

A copied command is the other common path. Official yt-dlp can extract audio from playlist items. The usual snippet does that for the whole pile. You never see the titles first.

Paste the playlist page, not a watch URL

Paste the playlist page you opened, not one video that happens to sit in a list.

• The playlist looks like youtube.com/playlist?list= plus an id.
• Open the playlist on YouTube, then copy the address bar. That is the URL KeepCopy inspects as a list.

A watch URL that only carries &list= in the query is often still one video. Inspect will show that title, not the picker. If you wanted the pile, paste the playlist?list= page.

Do not paste YouTube Home, a channel, or a search page. Those are not this playlist. The app will say so.

A generated Mix (list=RD on a watch URL) is Download YouTube Mix. That list is not a playlist you own.

Select entries — one MP3 each

Selection is required. Each selected entry becomes its own audio file.

After inspect, each entry shows a checkbox, a thumbnail, a title, and a duration. Uncheck what you do not want, or Clear all and pick a few. Select all is there when you mean the whole list — after you have seen it.

The Download button stays off until at least one entry is selected. It then reads Download plus that count. Nothing is queued until you click it.

This is not one mixed MP3. It is not a ZIP of the playlist. Three talks out of forty means three audio files in the folder you chose.

How to do YouTube playlist to MP3 in KeepCopy

Paste the playlist, select entries, choose Audio or audio MP3, and queue those jobs. You never type a format code. You never pass playlist indexes.

Step 1: Open KeepCopy

Launch KeepCopy on macOS or Windows. Linux is coming soon. First run installs and verifies the official yt-dlp release and ffmpeg on this computer. You do not hunt a package manager.

Step 2: Paste the playlist URL

Step 4: Save those soundtracks to a folder

In Settings, set Save files to to a folder on this computer. Each selected entry becomes its own job. The queue shows progress, cancel, and retry. When a job finishes, Show folder reveals the audio.

Audio MP3 or M4A for those entries

Pick the container you will actually play. Both labels drop YouTube’s picture on purpose. You pick once. The queue uses that choice for the entries you selected.

• Audio only (MP3) — the Audio default. Ordinary players expect it.
• Audio only (M4A) — when you want that container instead.

This is not a second product. It is the same picker. KeepCopy is not a music library. The tags live in the file. Your player reads them.

Embed metadata and Embed thumbnail write the title and cover into each audio file. Audio turns those on. You can change them under More options.

Official yt-dlp extracts audio with ffmpeg on this computer. KeepCopy does that with the Audio recipe. You never type an extract flag.

When a list is private or challenged

A public YouTube playlist usually inspects without cookies. Start with Don’t use cookies.

Age-restricted items and unlisted or members-only playlists can play in a signed-in browser and still challenge inspect. If the title is sign in required or YouTube is asking for verification, open Site access under the paste field. Choose cookies from Chrome, Chromium, Brave, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, or a cookies.txt file. Then press Add again.

Cookies stay on this computer. They reuse a session you already have. They do not create an account with us. They do not unlock a list YouTube will not serve that account.

Watch Later is a private list=WL playlist — Download YouTube Watch Later. Liked videos (list=LL) live on that URL too. This page stays on a playlist you can open as playlist?list=.

What this will not do

It will not silently download every playlist item because you pasted the URL. You inspect, you select, you click Download.

It will not mix the playlist into one MP3 or pack the audio into a ZIP. Each selected entry is its own file.

It will not sync a playlist later or skip tracks you already saved. There is no download archive in the shipped UI. Re-run means you select again.

It will not restore a removed video. A gray placeholder has no stream.

It will not strip audio from a file you already have. Paste a YouTube playlist. The app saves audio from that source.

This is not a YouTube browser, a media library, or a website that fetches the video for you.

If a selected row failed, Video download keeps failing.

If you wanted one video or the picture

A playlist is a list. One public YouTube soundtrack is YouTube to MP3. Paste the watch, youtu.be, or Shorts URL and pick audio MP3.

If you wanted the picture, that job is YouTube to MP4. Pick 1080p MP4 or 4K MP4 so ffmpeg can join the streams YouTube often splits. Audio-only labels will not fix a mute MP4 you meant to watch.
