What video hosts work

What video hosts work: YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, TikTok, X, Instagram, SoundCloud, Reddit, Bilibili, Facebook. Other pages yt-dlp can inspect may work.

A converter you found in search usually names one site. You still need to know what video hosts work before you trust a desktop app with a pasted link.

KeepCopy is a local-first desktop video downloader. It is not a cloud converter or a browser extension. We name the hosts people already use: YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, TikTok, X, Instagram, SoundCloud, Reddit, Bilibili, and Facebook.

The engine is the official yt-dlp release, installed on this computer on first launch. Other pages that engine can inspect may work in the same paste-pick-save flow. That is more compatibility than the named list. It is not a promise that every page will work, or keep working.

The hosts we name

These are the sites we stand behind in public copy:

  • YouTube
  • Vimeo
  • Twitch
  • TikTok
  • X
  • Instagram
  • SoundCloud
  • Reddit
  • Bilibili
  • Facebook

Stories are not a downloadable type. There is no Stories control in the app. Do not paste a Stories link and expect a file.

How-tos for the jobs people search: YouTube to MP4, YouTube to MP3, Facebook to MP4, Instagram to MP4, TikTok to MP4, X video, Twitch VOD, Twitch clip, Reddit with sound, SoundCloud track, Vimeo.

Paste a link in KeepCopy.

Why there is more than the list

The named list is what we advertise. The engine is why a link from somewhere else might still work.

KeepCopy runs official yt-dlp plus ffmpeg on this computer. yt-dlp is built to inspect many video pages, not only the ten hosts above. If that engine can read the page, the same paste, pick quality, and save flow is what you use.

Paste the URL. Inspect it. If the preview loads, pick a quality and download. If it does not, the app will say so. That check happens here — the pasted URL never goes through our servers.

For the path of a pasted link, read what stays on your computer. To skip the command line, see yt-dlp without the terminal.

What that does not mean

May work is not a catalog. We do not publish a count of sites. We do not promise every extractor. Hosts change their pages. An extractor can break until the official yt-dlp release catches up. Optional checks for a newer engine release can be turned off.

We also do not claim:

  • Stories on any host
  • A page that needs a sign-in, if you have not pointed the app at local cookies
  • A deleted, region-blocked, or DRM-locked page

When a host challenges the download, use cookies from a browser listed in the UI or a cookies.txt file. Those cookies stay on this computer. The full flow is video download says sign in required.

  1. Paste the video or playlist URL.
  2. Wait for inspect. You should see a title and the quality labels.
  3. Pick 720p, 1080p, 4K, best available, or audio as MP3 or M4A.
  4. Click Download. The video lands in a folder on this computer.

If inspect fails, retry, or repair the local engine tools in Settings. Video download keeps failing covers that queue.

More trust notes sit with this one. The product hub is the desktop video downloader on the home page.

What video hosts work — short answers

Which hosts do you name? YouTube, Vimeo, Twitch, TikTok, X, Instagram, SoundCloud, Reddit, Bilibili, and Facebook. Stories are not a downloadable type.

Does every site yt-dlp supports work here? No. The official yt-dlp release is the engine, so other pages it can inspect may work. That is not a guarantee every extractor works, or that a page will keep working.

How do I know if my link will work? Paste it. The app inspects the link on this computer before anything is saved. If the host challenges the download, use cookies from a listed browser or a cookies.txt file. Those cookies stay here.

Do Stories work? No. Stories are not a downloadable type in the app.
